106. MEMORISATION TECHNIQUES - Jack’s Undergraduate Empowerment - Empowering Undergraduates - Jack’s Empowerment and Inspiration

 106. MEMORISATION TECHNIQUES

A key component of a university education is effective memorisation, although this ability is frequently handled ineffectively. You can enhance your academic performance and change the way you study by understanding and using several memorisation strategies. The secret is to interact with knowledge in ways that make it easy to remember and meaningful, going beyond basic repetition.

Jack’s Empowerment

The Method of Loci, sometimes referred to as the Memory Palace technique, is one effective method. In a familiar setting, such as your house or school, this involves linking information to particular areas. The SQ3R method (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review) is another useful strategy that encourages deeper engagement with the content than passive reading. Mnemonics, whether in the form of rhymes or acronyms, can also be quite helpful when it comes to recalling lists or sequences.

Know that paced repetition and active recall, improve memory retention. Test yourself frequently and spread out your review sessions across time rather than reviewing your notes over and over again. Although this method may seem more difficult than passive review, it works far better. Furthermore, developing mind maps or imparting knowledge to others can strengthen comprehension and enhance memory.

Keep in mind that various subjects may call for different methods of memorisation. Chemical formulas may not benefit from what works for historical dates. Try out different methods and mix them up as necessary. The goal is to develop long-lasting knowledge that will benefit you in both your academic and professional endeavours, not only to memorise information for tests.
