A cooperation audit allows you to take a thoughtful look at the individuals, communities, and networks with whom you may connect or reconnect in order to recover momentum. It's about asking yourself, "Who can I learn from, work with, or grow alongside this season?"
Begin by mapping out your existing network, which includes past coworkers, mentors, clients, professional associations, and even pals who operate in different industries. You may have underestimated the number of people you've met who could aid in minor but significant ways. Perhaps someone can check your resume, connect you to a job possibility, or simply listen and offer encouragement.
Reaching out does not imply begging for favours. First and foremost, it is about reconnecting as a person. Send a nice communication stating that you are exploring new avenues following redundancy and would like to keep up or hear how things have changed on their end. Most individuals are significantly more inclined to help than we realise, especially when the offer appears sincere.
Collaboration after redundancy is not just about finding work. It's also about working together to create opportunities. Perhaps you and a friend with comparable skills might collaborate to provide freelancing services. Perhaps a small firm nearby requires part-time assistance, and you can share talents or resources. The UK's professional landscape is brimming with small businesses and side projects where collaboration can lead to significant opportunities.
A good collaboration audit includes communities, both online and offline. Join LinkedIn groups that are relevant to your field, local business gatherings, or industry-specific associations. Attend free classes or networking events organised by career centres, councils, or coworking spaces. Each event you attend is a seed planted, and you never know which will sprout into your next career or collaboration.
Collaboration increases your confidence. When you connect with people, you are reminded of your abilities, social skills, and professional value. It gets you out of your head and into collaborative action. At the same time, a collaboration audit helps you identify where not to invest energy. Not every connection will serve you well. If someone consistently discourages you or drains your energy, it’s okay to limit that contact for now. Focus on spaces and relationships that uplift, challenge, and empower you.
