Good food is something that will never go out of style. Nigerians know how to cook, and happily, the UK is full of individuals eager to try something new, nostalgic, or intriguing. Your Jollof rice, puff-puff, and Egusi dishes can be more than just survival meals. They can generate income. To make it work, you must stop regarding cooking as a hobby and instead view it as a skill with significant potential.
You do not need a fancy kitchen to begin. Start where you are: accept weekend orders, sell at events, distribute to Mosques, Churches and Community groups, or cook for busy families. If your customers enjoy your meal, they will return. What counts is consistency and the way you package it. Learn to take clean photos, write clear menus, and communicate like a business owner. Even from your home, you can create a food brand; if you treat it with intention.
Food also makes great content. TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube are full of people showcasing simple cooking videos, and people love it. You can teach others how to make their favourite Nigerian meals, even turn it into online classes or ebooks. If you’re already cooking, why not record the process, share your tips, and build a community? Food is one of the easiest ways to reach people across cultures; and it keeps you visible and relevant.
But be strategic. Learn about food safety regulations, correctly price your services, and determine whether to go casual or commercial. Don’t hustle blindly. Position yourself for growth. Some individuals make a lot of money from food; not because they cook better than you, but because they take it seriously and know how to market it successfully.
