Exercise is one of the most easily overlooked aspects of Japa, yet being one of the most crucial.  Life here might be so hectic and exhausting that physical fitness falls to the bottom of your priority list.  However, in the UK, where processed food is ubiquitous and most of life is sedentary—sitting at computers, in cars, and at home—a lack of activity will catch up with you quickly.  Poor health affects not only your body, but also your productivity, confidence, and finances.

The good news is that staying active doesn't have to cost a lot of money.  Gyms are an option, but so are free options like running in parks, doing home workouts, or joining local sports clubs. The UK is full of walking trails, bike paths, and outdoor fitness groups. You just have to make time for them. Think of exercise as non-negotiable; something you schedule into your week like work or paying bills.

Many immigrants treat exercise as a "luxury" activity, although it is becoming recognised as part of a healthy lifestyle.  Employers even encourage it since they realise that healthy employees work better.  Even if you work long hours, you can find time for small workouts or active breaks.  Ten minutes of physical activity multiple times per day is preferable to nothing, and it accumulates over time.

Exercise also improves your mental wellness.  In a country where seasonal depression is common due to long, dark winters, physical activity helps to boost your attitude and vitality.  It's more than just losing weight or gaining muscles; it's about keeping your mind bright and your soul high. So, view exercise not as an option, but as insurance for your future. The fitter you are, the better you can handle the demands of life abroad. It’s one of the few investments that guarantees returns in every area of your life.
