250. IS PROMOTION ALWAYS A BLESSING? When Nigerians move to UK; by the virtue of their stay, it is very common to see so many Nigerians associate promotion with their level of success and happiness. A sincere truth that is not always said: promotion in whatever position it may be, is not always the blessing it is made out to be.

Jack’s Empowerment and Inspiration

Initially when a Nigerian starts working in the UK, they tend to get happy whenever they get promoted; Its often seen as an appreciation for ones hard and good work. However, I carefully took note of the new burdens: more stress, long working hours, and most times the impact on socialisation. This promotion can come with a lot of pressure and make you assume positions you were not fully equipped or trained for. It goes as far as affecting the individual's relationship with their family.

To everyone who just got into the UK and to those aspiring to be in the UK, give yourself deep thoughts and question your abilities before you venture into any job. Find your strength and weakness, don't push yourself so much, take rest when you are weak, and use every opportunity given to you to learn rather than using it to impress or prove a point.

To young Nigerians who will want to Japa, don't get a job because of the salary alone or accept a promotion because of the increased pay, but rather dot every ‘i’ and cross every ‘t’ and put your mental, physical, and social health, etc., into consideration.

Conclusively, promotion is a blessing, especially when it aligns with your goals and it's not demanding more than you can give. Where it gives you time to build and become a better version of yourself.

But it becomes otherwise, when it negatively impacts family relations, takes over your life, or negatively impacts your health.
