Too many Nigerians in the diaspora work diligently without regard for old age. We assume that youth and strength would continue forever; but time eventually catches up. The question is, are you planning for the future or just surviving today?

One of the UK's greatest blessings is its pension system, which many immigrants fail to take full advantage of. Some forgo contributing because they believe it is unnecessary, while others live as if they will always be able to work. But the pension is not about now; it is about tomorrow. Each contribution represents a seed. When you retire, those seeds will ensure you are not over-reliant on your children, or begging the system for scraps. Do not disregard it. Learn it. Use it. Secure it.

Beyond pensions, investments are crucial. Inflation, rising costs, and life's uncertainties imply that pensions alone may not be sufficient. Consider safe investments like real estate, equities, bonds, or even small enterprises. You do not need millions to get started. Small, persistent steps over time accumulate considerable riches. The secret is discipline—delaying enjoyment now in exchange for future security. Too many Nigerians overseas fall into the trap of never-ending consumerism, forgetting that old age has no patience for inexperience.

Preparation also includes health. What use is a pension or investment if your health fails prematurely? Take care of your physique. Eat well, exercise, and get regular checkups. The UK gives you access to healthcare—use it wisely. Old age is not just about money; it’s about quality of life. Wealth without health is a silent tragedy.
